What this is
K Street Chronicle tracks the people and money that run Nebraska state government: the 49 senators of the Unicameral, the six statewide elected officials, state agencies, the Supreme Court and the 2026 campaigns. The name comes from the Capitol’s address, 1445 K St. in Lincoln.
Everything here comes from public records and published reporting. Each section shows when its information was last checked.
Where the information comes from
- Unicameral
- Senators’ names, districts and years in office come from the Legislature’s website and refresh daily. Committee rosters are entered by hand and link to each committee’s official page.
- State officials
- Checked against Nebraska.gov and Ballotpedia.
- State agencies
- Agencies are grouped the way the Legislature’s Research Office does in its 2025 report, “Boards and Commissions in Nebraska.” Directors come from the governor’s cabinet page. Salaries come from the state’s 2026 Personnel Almanac, which lists only salaries of $175,000 or more, so some directors have no salary shown.
- Supreme Court
- Justices are checked against the Nebraska Judicial Branch. Case summaries are based on the court’s opinions, published on Justia, and news coverage. A justice’s first retention year is calculated from the term rules, not taken from an official filing.
- 2026 election
- Candidates come from the Nebraska Secretary of State, the Nebraska Examiner’s primary results, Ballotpedia and Politics1.
- Donors and contributions
- Figures come from the Nebraska Accountability and Disclosure Commission’s bulk data for 2023 through 2026. Gifts are added up by donor name, city and state, and each candidate’s largest donors are ranked by total dollars.
- State budget
- Shortfall estimates come from the Legislative Fiscal Office, as reported by the Nebraska Examiner.
- News
- Headlines and summaries come from the Nebraska Examiner and the Flatwater Free Press. Every headline links to the original story.
